About Us

A team of trail runners out of Switzerland, as passionate about running in the mountains as about building great software.

Our Story

Waldup starts from a personal need. We missed an easy way to plan a race or a big mountain outing — studying elevation profiles, taking notes into spreadsheets, digging through previous race reports to set realistic time expectations. We thought it didn't need to be like that.

So we built the tool we wished existed: upload a GPX track, and in under a minute you have a complete, interactive plan with gradient-aware splits, editable waypoints, and a cheat sheet you can share with your crew or print and take with you.

Waldup removes the initial planning burden so you can focus on what actually matters — training for your next race, FKT attempt, or big mountain adventure.

Acknowledgements

Waldup is built on the shoulders of excellent open-source projects. We're grateful to the communities behind:

  • Leaflet — the open-source JavaScript library that powers our interactive maps.
  • OpenStreetMap — the free, editable map of the world that underlies our default map layer.
  • D3.js — for powering our elevation profile visualisations.
  • Flask — the lightweight Python web framework at the heart of our backend.
  • React — the JavaScript library powering our interactive planning application.
  • gpxpy — for parsing and processing GPX files in Python.
  • Simple2B — for their development support in the early stages of the project.
